The patient has the right to
considerate and respectful care.
The patient has the right to
obtain from the denturist complete current information concerning diagnosis,
treatment and prognosis in terms the patient can be reasonably expected to
understand.
The patient has the right to
receive from the denturist information necessary to give informed consent prior
to the start of any procedure and/or treatment. The patient has the right to be
informed of significant alternatives for dental care or treatment, where they
exist.
The patient has the right to
refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law, and to be informed of the
consequences of those actions.
The patient has the right to
every consideration of privacy concerning the patient’s own oral cavity care
program. Case discussion, consultation, examination, and treatment, as well as
all communications and records, are confidential
The patient has the right to
expect that within their capacity, a denturist must make reasonable response to
the request of a patient for services.
The patient has the right to
obtain information as to any relationship of the denturist to educational
institutions insofar as the patient’s care is concerned.
The patient has the right to
be advised if the denturist proposes to engage in or perform any experimental
denture appliance affecting the patient’s care or treatment. The patient has
the right to refuse to participate in such research projects.
The patient has the right to
expect reasonable continuity of care. The patient has the right to know in
advance appointment times and the denturist’s availability. The patient has the
right to expect that the denturist will provide a mechanism whereby the patient
is informed by the denturist or a delegate of the denturist of the patient’s
continuing denture care requirements following discharge.
The patient has the right to
examine and receive an explanation of the statement of monies owing regardless
of source of payment.
